Walls

Walls

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall
All the King's horses and all the King's men
Couldn't put Humpty together again.

Nothing good ;)

I actually did learn a little about Humpty yesterday. The story didn't start out as a children's rhyme. It was originally a riddle. A "how could this be?" riddle, with the answer being "Humpty is an EGG!"

It's amazing a riddle that lame stayed around for so long. I mean really? Was it so difficult to conceive of a fall where the victim couldn't be put back together again? Maybe walls weren't very high back then.

I thought maybe the story had its origins in a gruesome accident that happened a long time ago. Maybe a Knight, or a famous villager. But no. It was originally a riddle!
