What is saltpeter? I've heard the word before, but guess I'm not as smart as I think I am :) By the way, I never got your email about how to make my blog easier to read :(

Potassium Nitrate, according to Google. It was used to make explosives and ammunition. The line is from a song in the musical 1776.
